Independent Project
For the final project for FIN 201, I chose the option to explore video as art. I based my video on the quote “Heaven is under our feet as well as over our heads” by Henry David Thoreau. I normally find peace and beauty in nature and I thought the best way to represent this quote would be through all the textures around us. I followed a pretty literal order when it came to textures. First, I showed textures that would be under our feet and finished with textures that are above our heads. I also guide the viewer from the ocean towards land and finally upwards towards the sky.
As for the creative process, I pretty much traveled all around town during sunnier days to capture all the footage I needed, since I wasn’t planning on using found footage at all. I believe I ended up with a little over 15 videos to pick and choose from. When it came to editing, I started my process in premiere to do basic color and exposure edits as well as video transitions and the addition of all the audio. For the motion graphics, I exported my video and edited all the text in After Effects.
