SOUND PROPOSALS
Hike
The concept for this soundscape will be based on going on a hike in the early morning/break of dawn. Why? When going on a hike by yourself without an ulterior motive, the person is usually deep in thought or very in touch with nature, taking everything in. I want to create a sense of peace and belonging. Most people appreciate the idea of being on a hike trail when they need time to themselves. All the sounds that occur during this time period are very calming and peaceful. The approach will be to use the sounds of a light breeze making the leaves in the trees move, mix a lot of different bird sounds, and the slow steps of the person taking the hike. Perhaps consider a light musical hum to themselves. For the human voice recording, I will record myself using my equipment. I will try to recreate the sounds of the steps myself as well. Most of the other recordings will be found sounds. Length will approximately be between 1:30 to 2:30.

Camping
This second proposal will be based on going out camping with friends. For me, good memories come from sharing quality time with people that are important to you. When I think of camping, I think of night-time. I want to create the sense of a fun night near the river while you sing or tell stories with your friends or family. The approach will be to use sounds like crickets, frogs, the river flowing, the crackling of a fire and the whistling of the wind. I believe it would be fun to try to do the foley for the river or the crackling of the fire. Human voices will be made by my friends and I. Recordings like frogs and other nature elements will be found sounds. Length will be approximately 1:30 to 2:00.

TECH EX: 01
In this exercise, we learned to edit the basics in Adobe Audition. We followed instructions from LinkedIn Learning and also from our instructor. We removed unwanted “ums”, hums, and background noises.
TECH EX: 02
In this exercise, we learned to capture and edit foley. We captured foley for various different things like footsteps, door handles, and laughter. It was a lot of fun creating these with my sister and it was also surprisingly fun to edit the audio as well. Sadly I couldn’t figure out where to see dB levels for each audio file.
TECH EX: 03
In this exercise, we edited sounds to create 2 different radio calls. We edited a radio call to sound like a preview one provided by our instructor. The other radio call was all up to us and our creativity.
TECH EX: 04
In this exercise, we learned to repair unwanted noises in our recordings. These unwanted noises could be telephone rings or random pops that don’t belong in it. We did this by following the LinkedIn Learning Ch05.
SOUND Project
For this final project in Unit 1, we were required to create either a soundscape or a podcast. I chose to create a soundscape and create a sense of space around camping. Initially, it was going to be based around fun times with friends while you camp next to a river and tell stories or sing songs. For some reason, I decided to change that to have a bit more of a calm or sad tone. The soundscape turned out to be based around 2 friends or a couple. They fell asleep in their tent but the girl got out to get fresh air and stargaze in silence. The man wakes up and sees she is outside and decides to join her because he is worried she might be a bit sad. I was going to add the sound of a crackling fire in the ambience, but with the wind and the river, the fire made the composition sound too busy. I really wanted to record the sound of crickets myself, but apparently, the cricket season is over and I couldn’t find them anywhere! This project ended up being a lot of fun and I hope it communicates what I want it to.
