Independent Project
Idea 1: Texture in Nature (Exploring Video as Art)
Heaven is under our feet as well as over our heads.
Henry David Thoreau

Proposal one is based on the concept of following different types of textures and colors found in nature. Those concepts are also the formal elements I’m focusing on in this project, along with the formal element of line. The formal element of line will be present in the way I shoot movement in my footage. All of my footage will be shot with a slow vertical pan, which will also help with smooth linear transitioning during the editing process. Note: I am considering switching the asphalt shot for a gravel/pebbles shot so that everything is genuinely nature-based. The only reason why I considered asphalt instead of gravel is because I am planning on recording footage of pavement lines to further reinforce the element of line.
The order of these shots is based on the quote mentioned above; beginning with what’s under our feet and ending with what’s above our heads. I will include parts of the quote above in the middle of all the shots and include the technique of motion graphics this way. Most (if not all) of the footage will be my own since I believe a lot of it needs to be specific. The sounds will be based on what sound the texture being shown makes when walking over it, the sound it makes (water), and/or the sounds around it. The mood of the work will be peaceful and harmonious ambience. Question: Is the 1:30-4:00min of content in total or without counting solid color and credits?
Idea 2: Muhammad Ali (Exploring Video as Art)
The fight is won or lost far away from witnesses – behind the lines, in the gym, and out there on the road, long before I dance under those lights.
Muhammad Ali

I am basing my second proposal on a quote from Muhammad Ali. I will incorporate the use of Split Screen and Single Channel Video with Sound (maybe some Motion Graphics). The formal elements I will be focusing on are spaces and lines. I will be showing the element of space by having most of my shots in wide shot format to accentuate the openness of the places. The element of line is present in the blinds, the shape of the road, the gym angle (showing barbells aligned), the split screen between people walking and extreme close-up of eyes, and the lines in a boxing ring.
I decided on the shots based on what spaces I interpreted the quote might be taking place in. Because of this, I will place the part of the quote that symbolizes each shot in the bottom right corner of the video. The sounds used will be environmental such as tennis shoes making sounds on the floor while in the boxing ring, punching bag sounds, cars going by, etc. The mood of the video will be inspiring and motivational.
